There are many statutory requirements relating to sustainability. Green REIT regards these as simply the starting points.
In 2017, our first formal submission achieved the ‘Green Talker’ status. This is a significant achievement and was largely due to outperforming our peers in the key Management and Risks & Opportunities categories.
As 2017’s GRESB results highlighted areas that require extra attention, they are helping to shape our ongoing strategy. 2018’s submission is already being completed and we look forward to an even more favourable report this year.
Sustainability now directs our most basic design decisions. In the short term, this allows us to offer efficient, high-quality spaces with reduced running costs. Looking ahead, it also means the long-term performance of our properties is maximised.
To date, we have delivered three LEED Certified developments: 32 Molesworth Street (Gold, 2016), Building H, Central Park (Gold, 2017), and One Molesworth Street (Platinum, 2018).
Due for completion in June 2018, Harcourt Road is on target to achieve LEED Gold.
Green REIT owns and manages over 2.5 million square feet of real estate. As such, our actions directly affect the environment and everyday experiences of those living and working in our properties. Knowing this, we aim to ensure that every management decision has a positive effect on the environment.
Outdoor spaces can help to create a genuine sense of community. Knowing this, we work to develop creative ways of encouraging tenants to make the most of the spaces that surround them.
Similarly, tenants in Central Park Sandyford now benefit from a significant investment to make cycling more attractive. We undertook a similar programme and introduced a cycle shower facility in Building G, like its counterpart in George’s Quay, it has proved very popular.
Enhanced sustainability is not achieved in a vacuum. It requires the combined efforts of everyone connected with our properties: management, suppliers and tenants alike. Working together, we can deliver measurable results that benefit everyone.
We encouraged tenants to do likewise - and most did. In total, 71% of Green REIT’s total portfolio and 100% of our multi-let buildings showed their support for Earth Hour 2018.
To communicate our progress to senior decisionmakers and stakeholders, we have put a clear reporting programme in place.
